Our Charity
Les Restos du Cœur, Capbreton
Every three years, at our AGM, we choose a charity to support. In 2023 we voted
to raise funds for Les Restos du Cœur, Capbreton chapter, and at our 2025 AGM we
voted to continue our support for a further three years from 2026. Our choice
honoured the memory of beloved long-time club member, Claude. Before her
untimely death in 2022, Claude was a staunch supporter of, and volunteer at,
the Capbreton Restos du Cœur, where they now have a much-needed freezer,
funded by donations in her honour, named after her.
Our dynamic Charity Sub-Committee organises two charity fund-raisers a year -
a fun, much-anticipated summer bbq - the 'hot ticket' of the summer - and a
home-made products sale and raffle at our elegant annual Christmas luncheon.
Our members also volunteer at regular Restos du Cœur food-collection drives
at local supermarkets.
Les Restos du Cœur was founded by comedian Coluche in 1985 to help those struggling with food insecurity.
Sadly, in the intervening years, the problem has only grown, and, in our relatively affluent area, there are many
who have difficulties making ends meet.
The Capbreton Restos du Cœur food bank provides an essential year-round lifeline to families and individuals living in the greater Capbreton-Hossegor-Bénesse-Maremne-Angresse area.
Many recipients are elderly and lonely and, as well as the much-appreciated supplies, they also look forward to the hot drink, snack and chat provided by the centre's dedicated volunteers.
Our club is currently the only outside organisation that is supporting the Capbreton Restos du Cœur.
